“This feature documentary connects the financial collapse, growing inequity and the Wall Street oligarchy with future technology, sustainability, and the fate of civilization itself. Inspired by Ronald Wright’s bestseller A Short History of Progress, Surviving Progress digs deep into human nature and patterns of history to challenge and redefine the very idea of progress.”

This documentary is a magnificent, wondrously powerful presentation of the dangers that confront us as we make progress in so many fronts. The solutions that give our species survival — by physicists, that we should consider colonizing other planets; by bio-geneticists (Craig Vintner, a true genius) that we should transform genetic codes, and others urging us to consume less, to live within our means are hardly more convincing. What occurs to me — a Holocaust survivor and former sociology professor — is that all of these illustrate our fundamental impotence about control of human live on this planet. I am convinced that we lack basic science about human life in the social space we occupy. I have tried to jump start such science, in the hope that others (I am 87) will take it as a challenge to move beyond my effort. Still, here is a link to my effort: http://www.questforeffectiveliving.com http://www.livinginsocialspace.com Fred Emil Katz
