Surviving Progress

“This feature documentary connects the financial collapse, growing inequity and the Wall Street oligarchy with future technology, sustainability, and the fate of civilization itself. Inspired by Ronald Wright’s bestseller A Short History of Progress, Surviving Progress digs deep into human nature and patterns of history to challenge and redefine the very idea of progress.”

  1. This documentary is a magnificent, wondrously powerful presentation of the dangers that confront us as we make progress in so many fronts. The solutions that give our species survival — by physicists, that we should consider colonizing other planets; by bio-geneticists (Craig Vintner, a true genius) that we should transform genetic codes, and others urging us to consume less, to live within our means are hardly more convincing. What occurs to me — a Holocaust survivor and former sociology professor — is that all of these illustrate our fundamental impotence about control of human live on this planet. I am convinced that we lack basic science about human life in the social space we occupy. I have tried to jump start such science, in the hope that others (I am 87) will take it as a challenge to move beyond my effort. Still, here is a link to my effort: Fred Emil Katz
